You Too, Can Reverse The Aging Process

There’s an old proverb that rings with wit and reason: “Everyone wants to go to heaven but no one wants to die.” So why do we want to live forever? According to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, author of “Chasing Life” and CNN’s Senior Medical Corespondent, we do not.

The real quest isn’t eternal life on earth according to Gupta, but rather an exceptional life.

While interviewing the foremost authorities on anti-aging and life extension, Dr. Gupta discovered three “universals” — three principles that each researcher deemed critical to extending our lives naturally and empowering us to live exceptionally. They are:

1. Weight training
2. Good nutrition
3. Positive thinking and having purpose

Jon Benson, author of “Fit Over 40”, explores each of these in great detail, as well as asking 52 men and women how they have managed to slow the hands of time down to a crawl. Benson does not waste time with hype and hypothesis. He focuses on real-world examples and applications we can all use to slow down the aging process and help prevent and reverse the conditions that can lead to disease.

You too can live a longer, more exceptional life by simply adopting a smart, realistic and enjoyable lifestyle fitness plan. And if science just happens to catch up with Father Time, you’ll be many steps ahead of the curve.

Diet Soda Can Contribute To Your Weight Gain

People drink diet soda because they don’t want to gain weight. But having the drink contribute to accumulating the very excess pounds that the drink was supposed to help avoid, comes as a surprise to many dieters.

A study by The University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, took 1550 test subjects, some over weight, some not, and examined the relationship between soda consumption and weight gain. Sharon P. Fowler, MPH, who lead the 8 year study said “What didn’t surprise us was that total soft drink use was linked to overweight and obesity. What was surprising was when we looked at people only drinking diet soft drinks, their risk of obesity was even higher”. The researchers concluded that for every can or bottle of diet soda that was consumed each day, a participant’s risk of being overweight was increased by a whopping 41%.

After reading the study, my question was: why does diet soda contribute to weight gain? and what can you do about it? besides the obvious, “stop drinking diet soda”, answer.

We found this video by Wellness Works that does a very good job of answering this question, and a few others that merit your attention…

Enjoy…

Jillian Michaels’ Diet Plan Reviewed

You may recognize the name as the hard-as-nails trainer from “The Biggest Loser.” Everyone loves to hate her. But, no one can argue with the results she gets. She has now transformed that nonstop wicked attitude into a diet plan for the general public.

Sometimes we all need a swift kick in the pants when it comes to getting off the couch and getting in gear to lose weight and get in shape. Jillian Michaels does just that on television in front of millions of viewers each season. Now she wants to do it for you in your home.

How the Jillian Michaels Plan Works

Jillian has an online program that will help you get started on the road to weight loss success. What you would do is first go to the website and fill out a small questionnaire. This will help determine how to customize your weight loss plan. She has what she calls the “triple threat approach” to weight loss which includes the following:

  1. Learning about yourself – This is her plan for behavior modification. These are changes you can make in your thinking and your

actions to help you make the right choices for weight loss.

  2. Learning the science – This includes learning how to eat for your body’s metabolism. Certain foods can help speed up your metabolism so you can lose optimum weight in a shorter amount of time.
  3. Learning to exercise – This is the part we all know, but avoid anyway. Well, no longer an option, folks. We have seen Jillian make grown men weep with her exercise program. Her reputation is for going at it hard to get results. The good thing is the exercises offered are ones you can do at home without having to visit a gym. So, go ahead and cry your eyes out. No one will see.

Many like her approach because she doesn’t accept excuses. She provides the push that many need to get motivated and keep moving. Because the plan emphasizes weight loss as well as exercise, it is well-rounded and is almost guaranteed to help those who stick to the plan.

Here’s the Skinny

With Jillian Michaels’ name attached, you can expect a serious workout. Getting mentally prepared for that will leave you with no surprises. She has video workouts and books to help you choose the right exercises for you. There are also exercise, fitness, and food guides that you can print out from her website. Other support tools include weight tracker, fitness advice, forums, blog, coaching, calorie calculator, and much more.

You will be doing a fair amount of cooking as this is not a meal delivery plan. On the bright side, preparing healthy meals helps you get accustomed to cooking the right foods that work for your diet. This diet plan includes dishes you can prepare for the entire family so you don’t have to spend extra money on your “diet food” in addition to the grocery budget. Plus, your healthy meals will benefit your family.

Want a butt-kicking workout and healthy meal preparation advice? This plan may help you become the biggest loser – in a good way!

The Medifast Diet Reviewed

Wanting to lose weight is one thing that many people have in common. It is not an easy goal to achieve and can lead to frustration and quitting. The Medifast diet is one option for fast weight loss that has found success with many.

It used to be that the main goal with losing weight was to look good. With the epidemic of obesity in the world today, the main goal has changed somewhat. Now the goal is to feel good, strong, and healthy. If you are searching for a weight loss plan to meet your goals, you might consider Medifast, one of today’s most popular diet plans.

How the Medifast Plan Works

This plan is designed to help you eat your essential nutrients each day and stick to a certain caloric intake. They call it the “5 and 1 plan.” There are plans for men, plans for women, and plans also specifically formulated for diabetics.

Five of your meals each day will come from the diet. They ship meals, shakes, nutrition bars, dry soups and chili, as well as other options to your door. The physician-backed plan recommends six meals a day. Only one of those six meals will be prepared by you and there are guidelines for what that meal includes.

The meals are created using their “High Fullness Index.” The food is designed to fill you up so that you aren’t hungry and not craving snacks and other foods. Because one of the big complaints about diets is the lack of satisfaction, feeling full, this diet claims to answer that problem with these more dense meals.

Results

Because of the reduced calories, people on the diet have reported weight loss as high as five pounds each week. Even

CLICK HERE to get The Secret is Out: What Physicians Have Always Known About Weight Loss (The Medifast Program)

though nutritionists believe that two pounds a week is healthy, this diet has been carefully formulated to provide safe weight loss at that level.

Once you reach your goal, eating healthy meals each day can help you maintain your optimum weight. This is not a plan to be followed forever.

Here’s the Skinny

You have to be dedicated on this plan. Your meals come powdered and are reconstituted and microwaved. For the sensitive palate, this may be hard to get used to. The upside is that the meals take the guesswork out of what to eat and how much. They are portion controlled so you don’t have to think about it.

The cost of the food can be expensive. It may be an expense you can’t afford. With family members probably not participating in this diet plan, this cost will be in addition to regular grocery bills. Also, you are preparing one meal a day for yourself, either breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Take a close look at your grocery budget before you decide to choose this diet.

So, do you think you can follow this plan? It has a high success rating and thousands can attest that it is a bona fide diet that gets results. It may be the one for you.

90/10 Diet by Joy Bauer A Review

Joy Bauer has taken her perky nutrition and health advise she dispenses on The Today Show and created a diet that can help people lose weight the right way.

How the 90/10 Plan Works

The basics of the plan are simple; you eat a healthy diet 90 percent of the time and 10 percent of the time you are allowed other foods. Those other foods would be “comfort foods.” In her book, she calls them “fun foods” which removes the stigma of being naughty or forbidden foods.

Her book is the basis for the plan – “The 90/10 Weight-Loss Plan: A Scientifically Designed Balance of Healthy Foods and Fun Foods.” For the 90 percent, she offers two weeks of meal plans to get you started. During this time you learn about portion control, the amount of calories you should be eating for your body and how to get the good foods in that you need without feeling deprived. There are three diet plans in the book based on calorie consumption – 1200, 1400, and 1600.

There is even a list of “fun foods” for you to examine. It is a fact that when you feel like you can’t

CLICK HERE to get The 90/10 Weight-Loss Plan: A Scientifically Designed Balance of Healthy Foods and Fun Foods

have something, you will want to eat it even more. Having a list of these foods puts some dimensions and measures on the excesses we can enjoy.

Results

This diet plan is great for those who don’t like to be told what to eat all the time. You are given guidelines to help you choose what foods are healthy for you. Many people have found success with this plan because this diet doesn’t have a lot of rules to contend with, so it can fit into plenty of lifestyles.

Here’s the Skinny

For people who need more control, this may not be the diet for you. But, if counting calories seems cumbersome to you, this may work great. You can follow the sample meal plans or come up with your own from the other foods mentioned.

One drawback is the fun foods – not eating them but fitting them in. you will have to breakdown your calories so you can include them each day without going over your limit. But, your food choices (pick filling foods) will determine how much satisfaction you get out of each calorie. This plan doesn’t stress exercise but it is important to add in.

Want your cake and your broccoli? Try the 90/10 diet plan.

Trim 360 Diet Review

Are you tired of counting calories? If so, this diet plan may be for you. The basis of the Trim 360 diet plan is every meal is 360 calories or less. You won’t need to calorie count because the hard work is done for you with the plan. Let’s take a look.

How the Trim 360 Plan Works

The program provides foods to you by home delivery. You can choose from 50 different meals and snacks. Each entrée offers multiple servings so you can eat it again if you like it a lot.

There are three different packages to choose from: 7 meals a day, 5 meals a day, or 3 meals a day. Your calories and portions are based on which package you choose.  You can have the food shipped to you as grouped by the plan, or you can customize your plan choosing foods that you like in particular.

Once you receive your food, you are ready to enjoy full meals. You’ll just want to add a healthy beverage. Nutrition guidelines provided can help you choose beverages and light snacks so you aren’t compromising your calories and weight loss.

Results

The program can help you lose anywhere from 2 to 5 pounds a week. With calorie controlled meals that are delivered to your door, you don’t even have to think about your diet. Success with this diet is attributed to the ease of the plan as well as the knowledge you are given about food and proper nutrition.

The program offers a 30 day free trial so you can get familiar with the program and decide if it is something you might like to do. You are given a sample pack of shakes and snacks and access to videos and tools to help you create meals. If you like it, you can sign up for complete meal delivery.

Here’s the Skinny

The meal delivery is not cheap. They break it down by how much it will cost each day but you are purchasing your meals by the week or month so the actual bill has to be calculated. There are videos, as we mentioned above, to guide you through preparing meals and learning about nutrition. You’ll also have access to the online community to talk to experts and others on the plan.

This plan is great for the food and nutrition part of weight loss. However, it doesn’t stress exercise. Increasing activity will enhance your weight loss and give you the shapely body you want when the weight is gone. Combining this plan with some type of regular physical fitness activity will provide you with optimum results.

Trim 360 helps take the struggle with food planning out of dieting with meal delivery, nutritional education, and online support. Throw in some exercises and this diet plan could be just what you need to finally lose the weight. Click Here to visit the Trim 360 Website

The FullBar Diet Plan Review

What is your number one complaint on a diet? If you’re like most people, you probably don’t feel like you get enough to eat, enduring a constantly growling stomach. Some dieters even feel like they are starving. Well, starve no more. Take a look at the FullBar diet.

How the FullBar Plan Works

One of the reasons we gain weight in the first place is because we eat too much before we feel full. The brain seems to shut that “feel full” mechanism off way too late;  sometimes long after we’ve eaten the entire bag of chips or half a bucket of ice cream.

Dr. Michael Snyder, a bariatric surgeon, came up with the FullBar system for weight loss based on weight loss surgery. After surgery, the stomach is much smaller so the person feels full faster. The FullBar program is designed to increase your fullness before meals so that you eat less and lose weight. The bars will fill up a good portion of your stomach space and accomplish the same goal without going through surgery.

Using the FullBar plan, you’ll eat a bar about half an hour before lunch and dinner. By the time you are ready to eat, you will have less room for the food. Of course, you’ll still want to make healthy food choices, but you’ll eat less of it and you won’t feel deprived. Breakfast is eaten without the additional FullBar, but you will make healthier menu choices.

The object of this plan is to notice how full you feel in the 30 minutes after you eat the bar. You want to feel full enough to not eat too much, but not so full that you want to skip a meal. This isn’t about meal replacement; it’s about eating smaller portions.

With this plan, people are losing weight without feeling hungry. Hunger is the one thing that drives people to throw their diet out the window and rifle through the pantry for anything edible, usually coming up with fatty and sugary snacks. That “feeling empty” problem is solved with this diet plan. This is an online program in which you can order your bars. However, some national drug store chains have started carrying them.

There is also a line of products offered besides the original FullBar. You can find snacks that curb your appetite and treats for the sweet tooth. All are designed to fill you up.

Here’s the Skinny

Besides the FullBar, Dr. Snyder also provides information on his website to help you make healthy food choices for all your meals each day. He gives tips on tracking calories, choosing the right foods to speed up your metabolism, and how to incorporate exercise into your diet plan. Because this plan was developed by a doctor, there is expert support available if you have questions. You’ll also find a community of other FullBar users to chat with in order to compare notes and cheer each other on.

Feeling hungry all the time when you’re on a diet is no fun and it makes the dieting process more difficult than it has to be. Wouldn’t it be great to feel full all the time so you eat less and don’t think about food all the time? The 7 Minute Workout

Weight loss and weight control is a multi-faceted problem.

A good program includes diet, exercise and stress reduction techniques.

So here’s the million-dollar question:

“What’s the number one reason people do not work out?”

Is it lack of money? Lack of motivation? Perhaps they lack the ideal workout plan?

Nope. It’s TIME. Or rather the lack thereof.

“We know that 50 per cent of the population doesn’t [exercise] and the most commonly cited barrier to exercise is lack of time.” This quote comes from exercise researcher Martin Gibala, a kinesiology professor at McMaster University in Hamilton.

Gibala put his theory to the test in a study that was published in the Journal of Physiology. In it Gibala compared a group who exercised “traditionally” — 90 to 120 minutes per day — with another group exercising far less: Only 20 minutes per day and only three days per week.

That’s a whopping one hour per week folks.

CLICK HERE to Order Jon Benson's 7 Minute Muscle

Did you know that Jon Benson’s “7 Minute Muscle” plan calls for only five 7-minute workouts with resistance training (weights or body-weight) plus only 9 minutes cardio a few days per week?

And that actually works? Yeah… you bet it does.

If you do the math, that’s about an hour per week as well.

This is the “Level 1” workout. There are three levels depending on your goals and exercise tolerance.

Find out more here — brief is best!

Back to Gibala’s study:

In just two weeks both groups showed improvement in both exercise performance and oxygen uptake. (Remember, fat burns in the presence of oxygen.)

The kicker is that both groups were almost identical in their improvement. Why? Because the brief exercise group trained with greater focus and more intensity — exactly how Jon suggests you train.

This is just one of dozens of studies that confirm the benefits of shorter but more intense workouts.

However, there is a catch: Train too hard and you will shut down your fat-burning furnace.

Your body perceives over-exertion done over an extended period of time as a sign of pursuit. It can trigger an ancient hormonal sequence that says, “I’m being chased by a tiger! Horde the fat!”

The body literally shuts down what it considers to be unnecessary activity in favor of self-preservation. And guess what? Burning off those hips and love handles is not a biological necessity.

You have to learn when to hit it hard AND when to rest and recover.

Finally, you have to put yourself into the proper mental state in order to see greater results in the shortest period of time.

Jon devotes an entire chapter to putting your mind into your muscle to make gains faster than ever before in “7 Minute Muscle.” You can read more here — brief is best!

Just remember these three key points:

1. Time is the greatest barrier to fitness.

2. Workouts can be short and very effective.

3. The body goes where the mind directs.

Until the next time, train smart.
